A Word from Daniel

Everywhere I go these days, as we end the season of campaigning and draw closer to Election Day, I hear people discuss their fears about how this election will turn out. Indeed, it is one of, if not THE, most important presidential elections that this country has ever faced. While it is easy, in our flesh, to moan and groan and complain and mull over the issue with a spirit of anxiety or fear or sadness, I am reminded of God’s Word to us in the book of Daniel. He says in chapter 2, “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes time and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them (emphasis mine).” So what does this mean for the coming election? How are we, as Christians, to respond?

We are to respond as God has it under control, because He does! Does this mean we should not pray about it? Absolutely not! Satan is alive and active and the book of John reminds us in Chapter 10 that Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy that which God intends for us to have – including Godly leaders. Therefore, we must absolutely pray and use the Sword of the Spirit which has been given to us to combat the Prince of Darkness in this evil world. However, as we pray and fight, we are not to do it with a spirit of fear or anxiety, but with a sense that “greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world”. I hope this gives you the confidence to pray boldly. Because God will not be surprised or defeated because of the outcome of this election. He is the One, after all, who has set up our leader!
