Somebody Has A Birthday

The whippersnapper on the left is 91 years young today! I love this picture taken of my girl and her great-grandfather at his garden last summer. He had just picked a ton of tomatoes, corn, okra, squash, and green beans to send home with us. Nobody can deny that Papaw Hill is a hard worker. He and Grandmaw have been married close to 70 years, and that takes work of a different kind! Since he’s never owned a computer, he’ll never see this. In fact, there is a high probability he doesn’t even know what a blog is. He’s one of a kind, for sure!
 Happy birthday, Papaw!

Sweet Shot Tuesday

The girls and I went on a little field trip a couple of weeks ago. We’ve been so busy with other traveling that I haven’t taken the time to tell you about it. I’ll be back later with a post and pictures, but I wanted to link up to Sweet Shot Tuesday with this teaser. Any guesses where we were?
Hint: It was a two-part field trip.

We’ve Done A Little Traveling

Y’all, I am beat! Not necessarily the way to begin a Monday morning, but it is what it is. We have traveled a lot of miles in the past three weeks. We have had lots of fun and done some fun stuff. It’s gonna take me a while to upload pictures, edit them, write blog posts and get them published because I have this other thing going on called LIFE. I’m trying not to let the mundane (laundry, grocery shopping, unpacking luggage) get in the way of the fun stuff, but the truth of the matter is, I can’t settle down enough to write creatively until I get the clutter under control. I’d pay big money right now to have someone come over and do it for me. But that ain’t happenin’.

So, you’ll have to give me some time to get the necessities under control around the Hill Hang-Out. Once I can see the floor and tabletops around here, I’ll be back to post pictures of some fun field trips we’ve been on – including a field trip JUST FOR MAMA!! Yeehaw!

Y’all have a clutter-free Monday!

Sweet Shot Tuesday

The girls and I had friends to play with yesterday. Our friends DeeDee and Emily were in town, and we met up with them at Aldridge Gardens to feed the ducks and fish and to have a picnic. I snapped this sweet shot while the girls were gazing at the lake.

What a Day! What a Day!

It was simply gorgeous in Birmingham today. We woke up ready to hit the books and start our school week. We had good intentions. We really did. But then we looked outside. The sun was shining, which hasn’t been the case in weeks. It was 65 degrees, a full 40 degrees warmer than this time last week. Our spirits just couldn’t be contained. We packed a school bag full of book work, put the bikes and trikes in the car, and headed to the park. I don’t regret it one bit. Sure, we’re paying for it by doing grammar homework at 7:08, and we still have writing and history to go. But it was so worth it! The weather could not have been more perfect. Look at the sky over Briarwood that Patti and I enjoyed while Bitty was in ballet.
The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Psalm 19:1

Some Stuff and Some Things

1. It’s Valentine’s Day. I am thankful for my Valentine and our two little Valentinas. Since the little one tricked us into thinking she was sick, which caused us to stay home from church, and then she really wasn’t sick at all so she basically played her “get out of church free” card, we celebrated yesterday. It was a lovely day. J made a fabulously delicious lunch. I took my big girl shopping for a few spring clothes. We took both girls to Liberty Park to ride bikes and trikes. Even though we really did miss church, and I heard Danny’s sermon was fantastic, I’m glad to have had the day to spend together with our little posse-o’-four.

2. We watched the Grammys last night. I knew after the Super Bowl half-time show that I am completely out of touch with pop culture. I didn’t recognize most of the names that were called for awards. And some of the performances? What? However, the highlight of the night, the performance that made it all worth watching, was “Jolene” by Norah Jones, John Mayer, and Keith Urban. It was fantastic! Although I admit that I had to google it to figure out who Norah Jones was. See? OUT. OF. TOUCH. Look people, if it’s not Selah, Travis Cottrell, the Gettys, or the Shades Mountain Baptist Church choir, then it’s probably not on my iPod.

3. Speaking of the Grammys, I wish I could get away with wearing my hair just like Esperanza Spalding. I mean, did you see it?!? Big, big, big and beautiful! (No, I don’t know who she is. See #2. And since I have never heard her music, I probably shouldn’t be advocating her. But the HAIR! Oh, the hair!)

4. I took my big girl to see Gnomeo and Juliet over the weekend. She thought it was the cutest thing she had ever seen. It was actually a pretty accurate retelling of Shakespeare’s original, except for the ending – which they covered as well. It was cute, and she chose it over the Justin Bieber movie, for which I am eternally grateful. Actually, the twitter and the facebook are all abuzz about what a great message the J. Bieber movie was, so we will probably end up seeing it, too.

5. There is no 5. But 4 is such an odd number to end on. I mean, I know it’s technically an even number, but you know what I mean.

Happy Valentines Day to you all!

My Little Snow Bunnies

We have had our fair share of snow over the last couple of winters. I have lost count of how many snow days the schools around here have used . Four? Five? My children are beginning to equate snow with winter, which, I guess, is how the rest of the country thinks about it. But growing up in Birmingham and Dothan, Alabama, snow was a rare occurrence. We might have seen snow once every three or four years. I’m happy for them to have the chance to experience the excitement and fun that comes with a good snow.

Pitter Patter had a cold the last time we got snow so she was EXCITED to play in it this time. It was all fun and games ’til she got hit in the face with a snow ball. Then she was done. 🙂
We’re having a lazy Saturday morning at home with pigs in a blanket and American Idol on the DVR. Happy Saturday to you all!

I Bet You Didn’t Know…

Cinderella likes hummus.
Snow White likes cheese dip.

And fairies like cupcakes.

Hmmm… there seems to be a theme around here!

Glorious Saturday

Y’all, today was a glorious Saturday in the Deep South. It was 74 degrees and the sky was the most beautiful shade of BLUE. The Lord must have known His kiddos needed a break from the cold, grey days we have been having. It was enough of a reprieve to renew our spirits. The carrot of spring has been dangled in front of us, and we can keep on keeping on until it gets here.
We chose to ignore the dishes and laundry and vacuuming and stay outside all day instead. I think we chose wisely. We wore shorts and sandals and sunglasses. Happy day!!
We burned off our store of energy by doing lots of tricks on the trampoline. Even Mama took a turn. Sorry, no pictures of that one.

We played a family game of soccer. It was Bitty and Mommy against Daddy and Pitter Pat. I’m not so sure who won, as PattiGirl kept picking up the ball and running away.

We rode trikes, and finally got the hang of it. I went inside to get dinner started, and when I came back out, Jonathan had somehow taught PattiGirl to steer and pedal. She was pretty good at it, and she was SO PROUD of herself.

Bitty finally got a chance to try out her new bike that Santa brought her.
I spent a lot of time here soaking up the vitamin D. Oh, how I have missed my sanctuary while it’s been cold.

Hope the weather where you are was as beautiful and that you were able to enjoy it! Happy Saturday, all!

(Still A) Sweet Shot Tuesday

Welcome, friends from Life With My 3 Boybarians! Y’all, it’s a cold, dreary, wet, gray day in Birmingham. But it’s still the day the Lord has made, so I will rejoice and be glad in it. Happy Tuesday!
