Whew! I am worn out after listening to this classic on CD. Donald Sutherland (you know, Keifer’s dad) did a masterful job dramatizing what is now one of my favorite Ernest Hemingway novels. It is the story of, amazingly enough, an old fisherman and his attempt to bring in the catch of his life. The writing is so prolific that I found myself lost in the story. (Lost, as in oblivious to what is going on around me.) I was on the edge of my seat, almost praying for him to reel in the fish. Hemingway’s writing is so descriptive that I felt like I was the old man. My hands hurt. My shoulders and back ached. And in the end, I was devastated. Masterful writing! I heart Ernest Hemingway!
