Birmingham Food Scene

Our next stop on the Birmingham Food Scene tour takes us to Vestavia, where Bistro V has been serving up delicious original dishes for several years. Located on Hwy 31, Bistro V is right in the heart of Vestavia. We’ve been by Bistro V lots of times and wanted to stop in “someday.” So glad our “someday” came because we were absolutely delighted at the menu and service.

Outside

Bistro V is open for lunch, dinner, and brunch on Sundays. We opted for a Sunday brunch after church, which turned out to be a very good decision. We were greeted warmly by the staff and seated right away. We were immediately made aware of the specials for the day…

Chalkboard

We were most impressed by the menu selection. Bistro V is known for their seafood dishes, but they offer quite a selection of dishes in all food genres. The coconut french toast looked incredible. They had a Bistro Breakfast Panini with ham, havarti, caramelized onion, and apple, all topped with a fired egg. And if you like eggs benedict, how about crab cakes benedict? Oh my! A man at the table next to us ordered the open faced roast beef on sour dough with brown gravy, mushrooms, Vidalia onion strings, and topped with a fried green tomato. Are you kidding?

The girls were wooed in by the chocolate chip pancakes, which were enough for them to share. The peppered bacon was to die for. And I might have sneaked the last few bites as my “dessert.” Yes, that is chocolate syrup on top.

Pancakes

I tried to be healthy and went for the asparagus salad with baby spinach, arugula, blood oranges, walnuts, Alabama goat cheese with a citrus honey vinaigrette. And just to send it over the top I added a filet of salmon. Y’all, I can’t get over the Alabama goat cheese. Or the salmon, Or the walnuts. Or any of it, really.

Salad

Jonathan took the advice of our waiter Todd and went with the shrimp and grits. They use only Alabama-made McEwen stone ground grits. And they add that delicious peppered bacon. Seriously delicious!

Shrimp and Grits

They switch up the menu seasonally and offer different dishes at night. We are dying to go back for dinner! They also cater private events and offer private parties at their restaurant.

Bistro V is co-owned by Emily and Tim Shell and head chef Jeremy Downey. Jeremy previously worked for Frank Stitt, so his cooking is inspired by his experience in Frank’s restaurants and by the fresh ingredients. His dishes are creative, and he combines flavors in a unique and delicious way. We are big fans.

The owners of Bistro V are graciously offering a $50 gift card to one of our readers. Y’all, you don’t want to miss the chance to try this place! There are several ways you can enter. Best wishes to you!

Bistro V provided brunch for the Hills in exchange for the giveaway and blog write-up. The opinions of the food and experience are, as always, entirely my own.
