A Visit To My Childhood Hometown

My girls and I took a little field trip earlier this week to my childhood hometown. It is really surreal for me to go back there because so many things are the same, and yet so many things are different. I have not lived in this small Alabama town since 1980-something. In many ways, my little town is going downhill. The economy is suffering, and it shows in the condition of the houses. It saddens me because so many of the houses are full of character. The whole town is full of these charming cottages, delicate Victorians, and arts and crafts bungalows which have now fallen into disrepair. Some have been better maintained than others, but there are still many that are crying out to be refurbished. I wish I could buy every one of them and restore them to their former glory. Anyone want to help?
