I just finished book #3 in my 52 Books in 52 Weeks challenge. I’m getting a better start on this year’s challenge than I did last year. Today’s book is Ginger Pye by Eleanor Estes. I read this one to Mary Anneliese, and I think she enjoyed it more than I did. While it is indisputably a classic in children’s literature, it did after all win a Newberry medal, I found the writing to be difficult to read aloud. My goodness, Mrs. Estes LOVED some run-on sentences. Have mercy!
The story line was cute. It’s the story of a family whose dog is stolen. The Pye family spend the entire book looking for their dog, Ginger. At 306 pages, it’s a long children’s book. That’s a LOT of looking for the dog. Mary Anneliese thought, though, that it was fascinating and suspenseful. Me, not so much. Any time I spend reading with my daughter is not time wasted, though, so I’m glad she liked it.
