Book #1 The Great Gatsby

Can you believe that I have never read The Great Gatsby before now? I’m not sure how I made it through AP English in high school and graduated from college without reading it. It is one of the most famous American novels, and arguably one of the finest pieces of literature ever to come from an American author. Written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in the 1920’s, The Great Gatsby is set in the Jazz Age and tells the story of Nick Carraway and his eccentric and mysterious neighbor Jay Gatsby. I loved this book because I felt like it was representative of life in the Roaring Twenties with its web of romance, never-ending parties, abundant prosperity, and colorful characters. It was engaging, and it explored an era which I have not given much thought. I didn’t expect it to end like it did. It was quite a shocker for me. It has peeked my interest in reading about that era, and I’m sure it will lead to my reading much more literature from the 1920’s.
