Nester’s Christmas Tour

It’s here! This year BooMama’s Christmas Tour of Homes has become The Nester’s Christmas Tour of Homes. I have never participated before, and quite frankly I’m not sure my decorations are Nester-worthy this year. However, I can’t promise that next year will be any better as far as my decorating goes, what with homeschooling a second grader, chasing a two year old, having my husband start a new business, and blah, blah, blah. So here goes…

This is our main tree that we put in the family room. It’s where we put all the gifts (mainly so that I can be sure the little one isn’t opening presents). I put our more traditional ornaments on this tree. This year I decided to hang my Christmas cards on this tree, and I have LOVED it. I think I’ll do that every year from now on.

In our downstairs den/playroom we have another tree. On this tree, I put our more whimsical ornaments and most of the ornaments the girls have made. This is my favorite tree. Santa leaves his delivery in the playroom. This has worked out SOOO great because we can leave all the toys out on Christmas morning and not have to clean it up for lunch guests. That was Jonathan’s idea, and it was a good one!

The girls each have a tree in their rooms where we put all of their ornaments. we usually buy several new ornaments for them each year, and their trees reflect their personalities and interests.

Mary Anneliese’s love language is quality time, so nothing speaks to her heart like spending time working on an arts and crafts project together. This year we made a gingerbread house, and she loved every minute of it. We haven’t had the heart to eat it, so it has added a bit of whimsy to the den this season.

When Jonathan and I got married, one of my favorite things I registered for was this Vicki Carroll Christmas pottery. Ten years later I still love it. It makes me so happy to pull it out of storage every December. It is so festive and cheery!

Because books are such a HUGE part of our lives (after all, I am a homeschooler who owned a bookstore in my life-before-children), Christmas would not be complete without pulling out our collection of Christmas storybooks. Our favorites are It Really Said Christmas by Mississippi author Laurie Parker and The Legend of the Candy Cane by Lori Walburg.
