A Different Kind of Christmas

I have added the second book to the 52 in 52 list. Last night I finished A Different Kind of Christmas by Alex Haley. You might for more familiar with his Pulitzer Prize winning book Roots, and the television mini-series by the same name. However, this book is one of my favorites of all times. It is about a young Fletcher Randall, son of a North Carolina senator and plantation (slave) owner. Fletcher goes off to Princeton, where he meets three Friend brothers who, in their pacifist Quaker way, quietly challenge the core of Fletcher’s beliefs. The story is a struggle of trying to justify his views and how that will impact his family. It’s a must read!
