Greek Seasoning from Scratch

A good Greek seasoning can be used so many ways. We use it on fish, pork chops, in dips, and on chicken. We use it regularly in Greek Chicken Pot, a fabulous week-night meal. Our Greek seasoning stays true to tradition with the flavors of lemon, thyme, parsley, and olive oil.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 1/2 tablespoons dried oregano
1 tablespoon ground thyme
1 tablespoon dried basil
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 1/2 tablespoons lemon pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon dried rosemary
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon cornstarch

Mix well and store in airtight container. I mix and store in a mason jar, which works quite well. It is great to keep this on hand for a quick weeknight meal. But don’t let its simplicity fool you – it is delicious enough for a more gourmet meal as well.

This seasoning is truly simple, made from spices most cooks already have in their kitchen, and it brings so much flavor to your chicken, lamb, beef, or pork dishes. We love it on fish as well. It’s no wonder that this recipe is one of my most popular on Pinterest!

It’s very important to use Greek Oregano which is light and savory…Not the same flavor as Italian oregano. A good online source is Savory Spice Shop.

  2. Why cornstarch? Curious. 🙂

I had a taste for a chicken shwarma sandwich today and when I saw your recipe for greek seasoning I thought I would give it a try. I seasoned my cut up boneless chicken breast and put it in the pan to cook. I had bought some garlic spread and pita at the store earlier. That sandwich I made turned out great! This recipe is a keeper. Thank you
