Homemade salad dressings just can’t be beat! There are many good store-bought choices, but the freshness of a homemade sauce just can’t be replicated in a bottled dressing. Vinaigrettes are particularly easy to make, and I usually have the ingredients on hand to whip up some flavorful combinations. For a good vinaigrette, you will need a vinegar and an oil. I prefer olive oil, but you can use canola as well. From that base, you can add spices, herbs, or whatever creative flavor you like.
I love a vinaigrette with a little sweetness and a little heat. I thought pepper jelly would be a new twist on adding both of those flavors to a dressing. Plus, I’d bought a jar the last time we were at Trader Joe’s and wanted an opportunity to use it.
This pepper jelly vinaigrette fits the bill for me!
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
3 tablespoons pepper jelly
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
Whisk the ingredients together until fully blended. Serve on your favorite greens. This would also be a delicious sauce for grilled chicken. We can’t get enough of it!
This sounds so good! I never know what to do with pepper jelly besides pour it over cream cheese. I can’t wait to try this!

This has to be so yummy!
I mix toasted candied pecans with pepper jelly as a glaze for ham. The sweet heat does something special to the ham. Try it some time!
Hello! I haven’t written you in a while but that’s because I’m still busy baking and eating your awesome cornbread recipe!!!! This is what I usually use pepper jelly with: John Hadamuscin’s sweet potato biscuit recipe with gently fried country ham. This makes a wonderful flavor combination: spicy, sweet and hammy. John’s recipe is out somewhere on the www but I can always scan and email it to you if you like. Karen in Cincinnait
