Oven Fried Bacon

If there is a more perfect food than bacon, I don’t know about it. My husband and children would eat bacon for every meal of their lives of I would make it that often. Thank goodness for Oven Fried Bacon! I’m not sure who first let me in on this little bacon cooking secret, but if I knew I would give them a big hug. We don’t care for microwave bacon at our house, so in ye days of olde, I’ve found myself standing over a frying pan for upward of an hour each day frying bacon strips to crispy perfection. Oven Fried Bacon is just as crispy as pan fried bacon. And you can stick it in the oven and actually walk away for a few minutes. Plus, you can cook way more at one time since a baking sheet will hold a lot more bacon than a frying pan.

Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray. This will keep the bacon from sticking to the pan, which is a huge mess. I use a large baking sheet so I can cook a lot of bacon at one time.

Place the strips of bacon on the baking sheet. I don’t really worry about trying to space out my bacon. I just shove as much as I can on the pan and let it go. I do place the thinner slices toward the middle of the pan and the thicker slices toward the ends. The ends cook faster, so your bacon will be more evenly cooked if you try to stick to this suggestion as best you can.

Turn the oven on at 375 degrees. Yes, you read that right. No pre-heating the oven.

Now, here’s the kicker. Since bacon thickness varies so much, it’s impossible to say how long to cook it. I let mine go anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes when I’ve started it in a cool oven. If you cook a second batch (and therefore are starting with a hot oven), you can count on as little as 7 minutes. You just have to watch it to be sure it doesn’t burn. Because have you ever smelled burned bacon? It will stink up your whole house. You are looking for something like this…

Once it looks similar to the above, take it out and immediately remove from the pan to a plate covered with a paper towel. You don’t have to pour off grease for the second batch.

I hope that this simple recipe makes your life easier like it has mine. Honestly, it allows me to cook bacon way more often than I was able to before simply because it no longer takes so much time. Yea for bacon on weekday mornings!
