Praying Scripture for Healing

alt="scripture for healing"

We have talked several times in the past about praying scripture over various situations and relationships. Listen, I believe that scripture IS God’s will, and so when we pray it back to Him, we are asking Him for what He has already revealed to be His will. However, if you don’t know what the Bible has to say about certain situations, then there might be some question in your mind about what God’s plan is. Let’s discuss praying scripture for healing.

We have discussed Praying Scripture for Your Family’s Protection (Psalm 91) and Praying Scripture for Our Husbands and Children. Today I want to give you some scriptures to pray when someone you love is sick, injured, mentally ill, or in need of some kind of healing from God. I can’t promise that just because you pray scripture for healing that your loved one will be physically, mentally, or emotionally healed. I wish I could make that kind of promise, but the truth is that we live in a fallen world where we will deal with sickness, sadness, abuse, and traumatic situations that cause destruction to our minds and bodies. (We look forward to the day when Satan has no further influence in this world and we can live without his evil schemes to kill, steal, and destroy!!) However, our prayers DO make a difference in the lives of our family and friends who are suffering, and by praying boldly using God’s will (His scriptures) we can have faith that we are asking for what He wants to give.

Lord, I know that you wish above all things that we would prosper and be in good health, even as our soul prospers. I pray that your prosperity and good health would be a reality for my friend. (III John 2)

Jesus, you went about all the cities and villages, teaching in the synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and healing EVERY sickness and EVERY disease among the people. (Matthew 9:35) Lord, your word says You didn’t leave anyone out. It also says that you are the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) Jesus, please heal my family member just like you healed the people when You walked on this earth. May You be the same today and tomorrow as you were yesterday.

Jesus, you bore our sins in your own body on the cross, that we who were dead in sin might live by Your righteousness. By Your stripes we are healed. (1 Peter 2:24) May my friend be healed in his body because You bore his sins on the cross. Jesus, by Your wounds may he be healed.

Bless the Lord, o my soul; and all that is within me bless His holy Name. Bless the Lord, o my soul, and forget not His benefits – who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, ho satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalm 103:1-3) Lord, with all that is within me I bless Your holy Name. I do not forget the benefits of being Your child. You have forgiven my sin and the sin of my sick loved one. You have redeemed our lives from the pit and crowned us with love and compassion. You have satisfied our desires with good things and our youth is renewed by remembering Your goodness to us. Lord, we pray that You would also remember Your word that says You heal all our diseases and act on that to bring physical healing to my loved one.

Father, You said you would restore health unto Israel and heal Your people of their wounds. (Jeremiah 30:17). You say we who believe in you through faith have also come into the family of Abraham. (Romans 4:16) Father, extend your healing to my friend who is also part of the family of Abraham because of her faith in You.

I pray that these scriptures will not only bring comfort to you and your loved one who are ill, but I pray that as you pray scriptures for healing boldly before the throne of grace, that God would bring the healing you desire. I do know, however, that many of you deal with illnesses that God will choose not to heal in this earthly life. I am sorry for what you have to endure. Please know that you are not forgotten by God. He sees you and hears your prayers and your suffering is not in vain.
