Accent Doors

Accent doors are a super-fun, creative trend in interior design these days. With the slant toward painting walls and trim in neutral colors, a great accent door in a bold style or color can add charm to an otherwise boring design. And while front exterior doors have always been a focal point, I’m seeing more and more interior doors add character to a room. We searched the web for a few fun examples of well-executed accent doors, and came up with some great ideas.

Adding chalkboard paint to a pantry door provides form as well as function.

How about painting the surrounding wall with chalkboard paint and adding a sliding barn door for the pantry? Great design by the uber-talented Holly Mathis.

Coastal Living brings us the perfect place for a southern screen door. We love this design by Susie Bettenhausen.

If ever I own a farmhouse, I will have a foyer just like this one with a black dutch door. This look is so timeless and classic! Amy D. Morris Interiors hit the ball out of the park on this beautiful, yet functional family design!

And while we’re on black doors, have you seen the trend to paint interior doors black? What do you think? I really like it. It sort of adds some weight to a light and airy space.

I heart the turquoise door in this mudroom. Wouldn’t that put you in a happy mood every time you left your house?

These garage doors are to-die-for. I love the look of a carriage house, and these are lovely!

A powder room is another great place for accent doors. The frosted glass in this one provides privacy, but still stylish.

  1. Wow, it’s a toss up. I can’t decide which I love more, the turquoise door or those garage doors. Beautiful. Thanks for the inspiration, liz

  2. Thanks for visiting my wee blog – and good grief, the drooling this post has prompted!! I can’t decide if the black interior doors or the turquoise external door is my favourite – they’re delicious!

  3. I’ve always liked the idea of painting interior doors a different color than white! I think it just adds an extra something. Our ceilings are low enough that I’m not sure it would be right in our house, but I’ve tucked the idea into my Someday Home possibilities! Feel free to stop by my blog anytime- I host a weekly link party called “This Week the Trend” that I’d love for you to join and I’m currently offering free ad space! I hope you have a great week!
